THANKS BACCHUS!!!
Share
I want to thank Drew, Janet, and the entire staff of BACCHUS for another wonderful General Assembly Experience this year in Columbus, Ohio. I cannot begin to express how much I appreciate not only the opportunity to present, but also just to be able to interact with all the wonderful students, and advisers.
This year I was offered the opportunity to do a break out session, Which was Titled "No Brain - No Gain" and covered the importance of taking better care of our Brain Health, and I was also able to perform a Featured Speaker Session.
I am always amazed at the amount of students who come up to me afterwards during these events to share their stories with me. This is truly a wonderful event, and again thanks for allowing me to be part of it.
Also during this years GA we offered an event to be auctioned off and we are happy to say that Cal Poly State Universitywas the winner!! Congratulations to Rojean and her students...I spoke with Rojean after she won the event and we would like to offer the opportunity for other schools in the area within a 300 mile radius to possibly book dates during my visit to Cal Poly. We can take advantage of the fact that I will be in the area which will save thousands of dollars in travel. Please call my office or e-mail me if you are interested in getting in on this date as on add on.
Thanks again to BACCHUS for all you do! I am blessed to be a part of your wonderful organization!!

The High Cost of Recruitment and Mental Health.
I was recently at a school doing a show and we had a wonderful group of students show up. As a matter of fact we actually had all the chairs filled. We had freshman, sophomores, juniors, seniors, and grad students. We had young men, young women. We hadyoung people of all walks of life. We had rich kids, poor kids, middle class kids. It was truly a great crowd that had representation from all stations of life....except for the following. We had ZERO people from the actual administration. We had ZEROpeople from the counseling center. We had ZERO people from the teaching staff. UNREAL to Me. In the 6+ years I have been speaking on campuses this has NEVER happened, Ever!
Haveyou ever for a moment thought that each and every issue you are having on your campus is a direct reflection of the mental health of the student body? Drinking, Drugs, Violence, Isolation, Un-Safe Sex, and so on! How in the world can you have a mental health event on your campus and NOT send someone from the staff to attend? How can you have a mental health speaker visit your school and NOT send someone from the counseling center? How can you NOTsend anyone that holds a position of authority to attend the event ? I am not suggesting that they need to see me, or the speaker, but they should at least see what the students react to.
Kids drop out of school because they are depressed, lonely, lost, stressed out. This will cost your school Millions over time.
In a time when we are cutting budget after budget maybe just maybe we should be increasing the budgets for Mental Health. Guess what? It cost way less to keep a kid on your campus for full term than it does to keep replacing them. Have you every thought of that?
I have become known for being direct and to the point. I cannot be any more direct than this. You are cutting the WRONG Budgets. Cutting money from Mental Health such as Counseling Centers is NOT the answer. Invest in the students Mental Health and you will get a return... I promise!

3 in One Clarification
We announced during our last Mental Note that we where offering a 3 in One booking program. We have had several people ask for us to clarify what it is. Here goes...
If you wish to bring Paul to speak at your school, and get two other schools within and hour or so of yours to also book a show during that same day the rate will be not only reduced, but the balance of the normal one day rate can be split between the three schools. This is basically saving each school approximately $3,167.00. Savings depends on a couple factors, but this is very close.
This program is being offered to schools that book a date which occurs during the months of January, and February 09.
We have also been asked why we are offering this? Simple... All of our budgets are tight... If we can do anything to help we will. NOTE: If even this program keeps us out of your reach then please call us today and we will see what else we can do. Remember...We cannot get to the students if we cannot get on campus. We are willing to do whatever we have to in order to make that happen.
NCAA SCHOOLS
Please remember that if you are an NCAA School you can apply for a grant to help. The next deadline for Grants is January 15th. You may download the application by clicking here now!
ASK PAUL
Our question comes from Kathy in Orlando, FL.
Paul can you please tell me what you have done in order to stay compliant with your medications? I am having a hard time with this myself.
Kathy staying compliant on my medications is to me one of the single most important parts of my treatment for my Brain Illness. Doing this allows me to keep my Brains chemistry correct. Without this balance I really am not able to do the other 90% of what is required to stay healthy such as working out, positive thinking, eating correctly, interacting with my family and friends, and so on.
In a nut shell here is what I have done... I have educated myself enough to know that I have a real illness, just like Diabetes. Because I have a real illness, I must treat it as such. If I had diabetes I would take my medication every day correct? My brain illness is no different...I must take my medication in order to stay healthy.
I realize this sounds very simple in a way Kathy...and to me it is. There is no real trick to staying compliant just as there is not real trick to breathing....It's just something you have to do.
God Bless and good luck - Paul
