ShareI would
like to start off by saying it has been way too long
since my last newsletter...I would like to say that
there is a good excuse however there is not. I have been
very busy with not only speaking, but also in my
business as well.
I thought I would send
this e-mail out just to update people on what has been
happening with us and our mission.
#1-The
start of this school year for us has been nothing short
of AWESOME! This has been one of the
best starts ever. While not all our shows have been
College Dates, a good majority of them have been. We
have spoken at several Mental Health Organization
Events, and State Sponsored Events as well. I would like
to thank everyone for hosting me, and for their
hospitality.
#2-
During the past few months I have noticed an increase in
people contacting my office about bookings whose major
concern is FEE Costs. I would like to address this one
more time. We will never allow fee to stop us from
reaching out to people. I do not know how to put this
any plainer... If you are interested in booking us for
your school, organization, or business yet are concerned
about money the only way we can address it is if you
ask. You may call me personally at 513-407-4807 to
discuss this.

#3- Last
week I had the pleasure of spending a great deal of time
in Kansas. I would like to thank all the schools who
hosted me. I cannot express thanks enough for all the
kindness and hospitality provided.
During this visit I had
the honor of speaking to the Student Affairs Conference
at Fort Hays State University. After my Keynote we held
a follow up session. and during this session we spoke
about how to bring Mental Health out to the students as
visibly as Alcohol, Drugs, and
Breast Cancer to name a few....Yes
Breast Cancer.
As many of you know I
personally feel that Marketing is our number one barrier
when it comes to getting our message out to the people.
WHY? Because the Marketing of mental health is nothing
even close to that of say
Breast Cancer (PINK). Face it folks, you
cannot go anyplace anymore without seeing
PINK Ribbons and products
that kick back cash to Breast
Cancer. This is a wonderful, AWESOME thing. Think
of just how many lives are being saved and changed by
this marketing campaign. It is truly Genius as far as I
am concern.
I recently visited a
school that I counted 75 PINK
Posters. That's Marketing Folks.
Breast Cancer (PINK) has
become it's own brand. This is saving countless
lives without a doubt. This is something we
need to strive for right NOW!
We have been going
about this thing all wrong. Breast
Cancer (PINK) is a 365 day event. Everywhere you
turn you see PINK Ribbons,
Pink Boxes, and PINK Clothing.

POSTER IDEA.... You can
take a look at our first pass for the poster. We think
it says a lot without the normal dark message.
Click on the poster to
see a larger image. You will also be able to tell us
what you think on the page you will be directed to.
Do you have a chapter
on your campus yet? If not why? I have worked with these
fine young people on such campuses as Alfred University,
Boston University, Case Western University, Juniata
University, Regis University, Saginaw Valley State, and
many more. These are very pro-active young people making
a huge difference on their campuses.
Learn more about this
organization by visiting
www.activemids.org
now. I urge you to consider starting a chapter. For all
those High School people on my list I also urge you to
take a look...after all your kids probably could benefit
even more. Face it, if we can get to them before they
hit college maybe we can address some of their mental
instability early enough to prevent major problems after
high school!
Just a note: Any school
contacting us that has an Active Minds Chapter will get
a special rate discount for any booking. It is our way
of saying thanks for allowing this fine organization on
your campus.
Shout out to
Alison, Heather, and the entire staff at Active Minds!
You are AWESOME!!! |

Here is what I am proposing and
need to find out what kind of initial support I can get.
I would like to see a
365 day a year campaign for the Brain.
"No Brain - No
Gain"™ Think About It.
Instead of focusing on Mental
Illness, why not focus on the Brain Health?
Here is a fact for
you...According to the
CDC 1 in 4 adults over the age of 18 will suffer from a
diagnosable Mental Disorder in a given year - The actual
number is 26.2% - UNACCEPTABLE! Over 57.7 Million people
according to the 2004 Census.
For
comparison 188,587 people where diagnosed with breast cancer
that same year. NOTE - Take a look at the chart...It's funny how
they do not list
Suicide on the chart yet it is the 11th leading cause of death
in America and the second on a College Campus.
100% of what you
think, know, say, believe, feel, and understand comes from your
Brain, 100%. This to me makes your brain the
single most important piece of equipment in your body with the
heart being second. "No Brain - No Gain"™ may
just be our way of getting the message out without alienating
people. Face it "Mental Health/Illness" has such a STIGMA
surrounding it that people will turn a blind eye fast...However
if we can somehow connect to the people through a campaign that
is less scary we might just be able to reach more of those in
need.
Here is
what I need...
1-What are your
thoughts?-Please tell me what you think we can do to make this
work.
2-I will need at least 10
people that I can work with on an Advisory Board to decide what
the initial posters will look like, what other resources are
needed, and other vital details.
3- Anyone who can help us reach
people...I need your help. Folks, we have very young people
dying everyday cause they are afraid to get help. PLEASE Help us
get to these people. There are people of all ages living with
Mental Health Issues who need help...We can't get to them
without help.
Share
your thoughts!
This is not going to be easy I
know. I also know that there is no way I can do this without the
help and guidance of others, especially professionals in the
mental health field. I am 100% confidant though in my belief
that this is probably one of the major ways we can turn the way
people look at mental health around.
I think it is well worth the
effort and I look forward to hearing what you have to
say...Remember Good or Bad, I want to know...You CANNOT OFFEND
ME!
God Bless and thanks for all
you do...
